This August, Australia will get the boxing bout we’ve been waiting for.

Jeff Horn will take on Tim Tszyu, in a highly anticipated super welterweight bout. The winner will not only take Australian bragging rights as the unofficial number one fighter in the country, but more than that, they’ll likely land a world title shot later this year.

After the fight was postponed from its original April time slot due to coronavirus, both fighters have been in lockdown preparing, making use of the additional months added to their training schedule.

Former World Champion, Jeff Horn, is fresh off a controversial victory over Michael Zerafa where he enacted the rematch clause to take the win after falling in the first fight. Sitting at 20-2-1, Horn has previously proven himself against the best in the world and has been working his way through the Australian scene the last year and a half.

Tim Tszyu, son of Australian legend, Kostya, although yet to begin his international journey, is coming in as the hot favourite to win this bout. Tszyu last tasted victory in December last year when he stopped Jack Brubaker in the fourth round of their Sydney bout, he also took the win in a points decision over Michael Zerafa.

Earlier this year, Tszyu said he was ready for the next step in his career, and laughed off those who believe he’ll be out of his depth when taking on Horn. Fanning the flames of the growing bad blood, Tszyu has come out swinging first, accusing Horn of only being in it to make a few bucks.

“Jeff Horn is only fighting me for the money, as far as I can tell. I don’t think he’s in it for the fans, or the glory, or the sport. He’s in it to make a few bucks for himself,” he said.

“I’m in it for the long run. I’m not too sure when Jeff changed his mindset. He’s done great things in boxing, and good on him, but I don’t think he’s hungry like I am anymore.”

Horn has hit back, claiming he wouldn’t have taken the fight it wasn’t for the legend that is Kostya Tszyu.

“I wouldn’t have taken this fight if his last name wasn’t Tszyu, because I’m not looking at fighters like Tim at the moment.”

Taking place in Townsville, the fight won’t hold a live audience, but will instead be broadcasted out to Australia, and you can catch all the action, live and loud at your local.
