The clash of the heavyweights is here, with Derrick Lewis taking on Aleksei Oleinik Sunday 9 August.
Lewis is riding the two fight win streak. In his previous outing this past February ‘the blackbeast’ scored a unanimous decision against Ilir Latifi, prior to this he took the victory against Blagoy Ivanov by split decision.
In laste 2018, Lewis challenged then champion Daniel Cormier for the heavyweight title, but it wasn’t a successful challenge, suffering defeat by submission in the second round. His resume also includes three ‘Performance of the Night’ awards, while three other bouts were declared ‘Fight of the Night’.
The Ukrainian-born Russian born Aleksei Oleinik is also on a two bout streak. In May, he took on Fabricio Werdum, winning by split decision. Earlier this year, Oleinik took a win by submission after taking out Maurice Green.
The heavyweight division is arguably as good as it has ever been, with these two fighters in the heart at the movement. Although they’re not in contention at the top of the category, you know a win here would be a sure path towards the top.
