This May, sees a thrilling line up between former division champion Chris Weidman and #6 ranked middleweight contender, Jack Hermansson in Oklahoma city.
Weidman (14-5) will hope to snap a two-fight winning streak when he faces Hermansson. ‘The All American’ is coming off of back-to-back losses against “Jacare” Souza and Dominick Reyes, where during the latter, he lost by first-round knockout in his light heavyweight debut. Of his latest six UFC fights, he has picked up just one win.
Prior to these losses, however, he has had strong victories. In 2013 he etched his name in the history books by dethroning long-reigning UFC champion Anderson Silva. A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Weidman has also seen impressive wins against Kelvin Gastelum and Demian Maia, as well as former UFC champions Vitor Belfort and Lyoto Machida. Weidman now returns to middleweight and aims to re-assert himself as one of the best fighters at 185 pounds.
Meanwhile, Jack ‘The Joker’ Hermansson (20-5) is coming off a second-round TKO loss to Jared Cannonier in September. Prior to that loss, Hermansson had won four straight fights with victories over Thales Leites, Gerald Meerschaert, David Branch, and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. He currently sits at #6 on the official UFC middleweight rankings.
‘The Joker’ became a breakout star at 185-pounds in 2019, submitting David Branch and winning a decision against Jacare Souza. Known for his devastating ground-and-pound attack, Hermansson now aims to add a former UFC champion to his resume and further stake his claim as title threat in the stacked middleweight division.
The stacked card will also see former women’s strawweight title challenger, Claudia Gadelha (17-4) and Marina Rodriguez face off in this strawweight bout. Throughout her UFC run, Gadelha has gained exciting wins over Carla Esparza, Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Jessica Aguilar. She now hopes to be the first fighter to beat Rodriguez and get closer to the title.
Rodriguez too hopes to take the victory. Since joining the UFC roster, she has bagged serious credit, with her wins against Tecia Torres and Jessica Aguilar. She looks to continue her move up the strawweight rankings as she sets sight on one of the toughest contenders in the division.
Additional bouts on the card include No. 13 ranked featherweight contender Ryan Hall who meets former title challenger Ricardo Lamas. Bryce Mitchell takes on Charles Rosa (12-3) in an exciting featherweight bout. Also, former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski fights Philipe Lins, and Alonzo Menifield aims to remain undefeated when he rakes on Devin Clark.
